I listened to half of the podcast sober and half with a "few" drinks in me....;^)
But here is what I have to say. I actually am going to write this as I listen to it again.
First off, where's my socom 4 comment? lol. I believe I said something along the lines of. "The classic mode brought back the feelings of socom. Abandoned looked amazing. And the respawn had a MAG feel to it that made it actually worth playing." I will admit that this was the only time I was trying to be nice to zipper when i spoke. Judging by the other responses, I think everyone was....lol.
Basically a quarter of the way into it I didn't hear anything new. Then they started talking about the clan system. How the clan system works in general is awesome. It prevents searching through 15 lobbies trying to find another 6v6. BUT, why cant we create our own custom ranked clan war?
I don't understand why we are still trying to prevent "rank ups" when we have an XP ranking system. It makes absolutely no sense. If its not skill based then its not a true ranking system. The main problem I have with the clan war system is this, a war is not one map long. It takes our clans map, vs, their clans map, and a tiebreaker (at least). I understand that this can be added by zipper, but it needs to be in place at the beginning. There is no reason we cant set it up our own. You guys keep talking about preventing people from "padding their stats" or taking advantage of the ranking system, but there is no ranking system anymore.... I don't get it. Its not that we wanted a skill based ranking system just because thats what we always had, we wanted a skill based ranking system because an XP ranking system is not a ranking system, its an eXPerience system. You should know the difference.
Now lets move onto the available zipper custom games.......WOW.........
Sniper Alley: 8v8 suppression, Classic rules, Snipers and Shotguns. Increased damage. Only smoke grenades. 7 rounds 5 minute rounds. Largest Maps.
Last Defense Run and Gun: 16v16 respawn, faster movement speed and damage reduction. "Close quarter" weapons. 1 ten minute round.
Tactical Uplink: 16v16, revive, no respawn. 2 ten minute rounds.
Freeze Tag: Suppression. no respawn, revive on, 7 rounds 5 minutes each.
Scrum: 8v8 suppression, no respawn. faster movement, higher damage, no snipers, no frag nades. 7 rounds 1 minute each. Medley of 3 maps
Wow, not sure I will like any of those but they are definitely interesting. But what are the default game modes??????
I will just comment on everything they comment on:
Crosshairs: I didnt hate them when I played with them so not a bid deal for me. But I do support a central dot. I understand why they are hesitant to add it. But I like the idea of adding it for specific weapons.
Camera View: It will be changed. Its playable as it is, but it will be better and I am very excited about this. I dont know why people are complaining about OTS or FPV being more accurate. I didnt think it was. All it seemed to do was zoom in a little and slow down the movement speed. Slowing the movement speed makes you more accurate, but if you move just as slow in centered TPV then it will be just as accurate.
Friendly Names: Fixed!
Grenade Arcs: Ran out of buttons. Not terrible without it but I want it.
Pistols: No pistols ever. I dont miss them.
Dual Primaries: I dont know if its better or worse to be ready for any combat scenario. But I have to agree when they say that now people will use the weapons that are not commonly used. I never used a shotgun, and rarely used an SMG. This was an interesting thought, because I planned on used an AR and a shotgun, so its true that it makes you use weapons you usually wouldn't. That's kinda fun for me.
Cover System: kinda surprised they are going to put it into classic mode, but I support it 100%. I know a lot of you dont want a cover system, but I think, once you use it, you will change your mind.
The E-Tags Sucks: plain and simple. You need to a least make it a red dot on the radar, because when you are in a fire fight with radar you know exactly when they are coming around the corner. With the radar you are not going to be looking at the radar when you get close to the enemy, so the fire fight is at least fun. Please consider that, at least. NO ONE LIKED THIS A COMMUNITY DAY. I really almost flipped out when I saw this.
Match Making: I prefer this over lobbies simply because I can get into a game faster. I can create a party and get all of my clan members into a game without having to search for a room for 20 minutes that has enough for 8 people.
Demo:........not going to happen. (please prove me wrong)
PTT: D-pad up: Tap to open channel. Still AWEFUL. Find a different option.
Overall I first want to point out that I am very happy about the camera being pushed back. I wish it was before the shipping date, but as long as it happens I am happy. That was my biggest issue with the game. I have a strong feeling that zipper is waiting until the beta and the game's release to find out how we really feel about the game before they add certain features. Basically they are hoping that we play the game and find the current features suitable to a point where we "forget" about the "socom" features we want. Im not saying that we wont actually like the S4 features and not care that the old features are added. I just think that zipper is waiting on many of them in the hope that we will forget about them.
I was very surprised at the custom game modes zipper added. I think UScR will be the savior of S4. I know the game I voted for is a lot better (more "socom") than the ones they created.
Aight, Im going to go to bed, but I will re-read this in the morning and correct any grammar issues, (as im sure there are plenty).
